This photograph was taken from the tower of the Municipal Building in Liverpool. The view looks south west over Sir Thomas Street, named after Sir Thomas Johnson (1664-1728). Johnson was a merchant who served as Mayor in 1695. He was also one of Liverpool's earliest recorded trader in enslaved Africans.
