Plate 53: View from Hall's Gulley, looking over Angas Park: the Belvidere Range in the distance (top); and View on the Barossa Surveys, looking north, towards German Pass (bottom). The top sketch is described as '... taken from the head of Hall's Gulley, one of the numerous glens which intersect the spurs of the Barossa Range. The hills on each side of the glen are scattered with wattle and gum trees, and a stream flows through it during the winter months. The scene is the month of February ... Beyond is seen the extent of Angas Park ... and in the distance the Belvidere Range with its triple summit is visible'. The lower sketch 'commands a portion of the beautiful and fertile valley, known as Salem Valley, through which the river Gawler winds its fertilizing stream ... German Pass, with the township of Angastown, is situated about five miles from the spot whence this view is taken, beyond the first range of hills. This sketch is also the month of February ...'.

This is one of 60 coloured lithographs found in the 1847 edition of 'South Australia Illustrated' by colonial artist George French Angas, together with a descriptive passage for each. The lithograph was created by J.W. Giles from Angas' original painting. The date assigned is assumed to be approximately when the lithographs were created; the original paintings were done in earlier years.
