This image was taken by Viking Lander 1 of the Mars surface on Mission SOL 40 or September 2, 1976. It was processed the September 23, 1976 at JPLs Image Processing Lab. This image is the IPL-76-09-02-171246. It was taken by camera 2 with azimuth setting 305.0/310.0 with elevation -20 (-50.66/ The scan rate on the image (as with most) was 16K. The image includes the RGB (red, green, blue) spectral mean data. The color charts were included on the lander body in order to assist in the color calibration process.
