KOMURO Suiun was an artist who from the mid-Meiji period (1868-1912) contributed to furthering the art of Nanga.* Depictions of mountains, flowing water, flowers, and birds, often using ink, are common motifs found in Nanga, emulating a style originating in China. In this piece, Komuro portrays a rural village in spring. Flowers in full bloom and the suggestion of a faint breeze bring to life the refreshing spirit of spring in this tableau.
