Khajuraho was the ancient capital of the Chandela dynasty and is located in central India. It is known for the large number of temple ruins decorated with sculptures of maithuna (copulation dieties). However, it seems that Akino's interest lay elsewhere. Akino turned her eyes toward a quiet alleyway sandwiched between yellow earthen walls in a desolate village, trying to capture the scent of the daily lives of those who tirelessly toil away. The single black sheep in the depths of the scene leaves an impression, and draws the gaze of the viewer into the painting.
