French violins are not as famous as Italian or German ones but can still be extremely good instruments. The most common way to make a violin back is to glue two sections of the same log together down the middle, but this one has a single piece of wood used for the back. It has the usual sandwich of ebony and sycamore inlaid around the edge to strengthen and decorate the outline.
