Violinist in the Street

1950s

Lithuanian National Museum of Art

Lithuanian National Museum of Art
Vilnius, Lithuania

This canvas depicting a musician conveys the Parisian street life motif that the artist was so enamoured by. The characters from Kasiulis’ paintings playing music, dancing or simply resting give his artistic world vitality, variety and a sense of fun. Violinist in the Street has been painted on a two-layered multi-coloured background, using wide, turgid brushwork in contrasting yet uniquely harmonious colours – blue, ochre yellow, green and pink.
