"This sculpture shows the Virgin seated on a throne, visible from the back of the image, with her Son standing on her left knee. Jesus, dressed in long robe, blesses with his right hand while holding a bird on his left.
The Virgin wears a robe tied at her waist, with her head covered by a large mantle held by a brooch at the chest, and she is crowned. With her right hand she holds one of the regular attributes found in Marian iconography form the Romanesque period that lasts well into the Gothic period: the sphere.
Sant Miquel del Fai Virgin is not a work of Joan of Tournai, but seems to depend on models and the same sculptural material that this master disseminated. The sculpture preserves important remains of the original polychrome, with gold finishes on the border of the dress and the Marian crown."
