  • Description: This panel, together with the other small door, were both at one time attributed to the Master of the Coronation, in the Christ Church Picture Gallery in Oxford, but have both been returned to the Master of the Lazzaroni Madonna, who got his name from the Madonna and Child in the Lazzaroni collection in Paris. The artist of these two doors, in fact, shows much less adherence to Orcagna’s composition and typologies. With his looser and more engaging style, the Master of the Lazzaroni Madonna follows the trend of the “graphic painters”, more attentive to the linear and chromatic aspects of the work than to the plasticity of forms and their spatial organization.
