On the hilly landscape background, protected by stone architecture, a very young Madonna is kneeling together with San Giovannino in adoration of the Child. In the background, two travelers pass under a promontory on which St. Francis is receiving the Stigmata. The painting still has its original frame, applied to the wide edges of the support board. The gentle scene revisits a genre of devotional composition that spread in Florentine workshops from 1470.
