This fine intarsia is the frontal of a wooden carved altar. Pietro da Cortona stayed several times at Casa Buonarroti. As a token of his gratitude, he gave the owner of the house the cartoons of the frescoes in the Sala della Stufa in Palazzo Pitti, but also the ones for this intarsia and the figured doors, and even painted a mural in the Camera della notte e del dì. The master joiner Benedetto Calenzuoli collaborated with Pietro da Cortona on the realization of this intarsia and of the figured leaves of some doors.
