On his "mission of atonement" through Germany, the Chinese Prince Chun II (1883-1951) also paid a visit to Saarland. The emperor's brother was sent to Germany as an Ambassador Extraordinary with numerous ambassadors in order the smooth over the political turmoil and to also establish economic relations in the coal mining industry as part of the peace negotiations after the "Boxer Rebellion", the failed Chinese resistance at the turn of the 19th and 20th century against western imperialism. On 25th September 1901, the prince visited the Viktoria shafts in Püttlingen where he was received by miners and officers in parade uniform.
