The "M.E.M.O.RI." project presents the "Museo Euro Mediterraneo dell'Oggetto RI-fiutato"(Euro-Mediterranean Museum of Re(f)used Objects): a journey that has touched five Mediterranean cities (Genoa, Marseille, Malaga, Tunis and Tétouan) and five towns of the Lucanian hinterland (Bernalda, Venosa, Matera, Muro Lucano and Potenza) leading to the creation of a real travelling museum.
The research aimed at reclaiming/recuperating objects linked to the history of each city, thereby enhancing their reminiscent value. Objects of everyday life often thrown-out or taken for granted, such as plane tickets, things forgotten in a pocket or found in the street, become real artifacts, an instrument of reminiscence and connection between apparently distant places.
It is said that people appreciate one object only once they have lost it. "M.E.M.O.RI." is a thought-provoking project, since it presents objects in a completely new way whose absence is not usually noticed, giving them a wider meaning. The visitor is invited to touch, experiment, and reconnect with what is in front of them and to take it elsewhere.
