There is almost a celebratory atmosphere in the small vestibule of the main building. The light walls are decorated with black glass plates, which give the effect of antique plinths, friezes, and ornaments.
In Gropius's times, this new industrial architecture was not celebrated as a "temple" or even a "cathedral of work;" Gropius was also influenced by antique and classical building structures as a young man.
Gropius and Meyer designed the interior decoration of the vestibule around the end of 1913 and the beginning of 1914. However, the First World War started in between and interrupted their work. Seven years later, at the beginning of the 1920s, the vestibule was finally able to be decorated according to the plans. All of the decoration can still be seen in its original state today—from the light switches to the door handles, right through to the landings and linoleum floors of the stairs
