Lace frill (back)

Calais, France

n the 19th century, the Valencian lace technique evolved: the bottom was now made in square mesh and not as round as in the 18th century. Moreover, some of the threads used to make the patterns were cut at the edges of the patterns: they were thus less numerous in the creation of the network, which accentuates the contrast between the bottom and the decoration.
