Voskhod 1 descent module

The three cosmonauts' couches inside Voskhod were only fitted with difficulty, making the crew crane their necks to see the instruments. As there was no space to equip the capsule with a means of escape, retrorockets were fitted to slow it as it returned to Earth, enabling the cosmonauts to remain on board for the entire mission.
