While making this collage I was thinking about the power we have as citizens to make real change with our votes, change our country desperately needs. I drew on the rich history of political imagery to create an artwork that captures the collective power we have and inspires people to exercise that power.
Sunflowers and yellow roses were purposely chosen because of their relationship to Woman's Sufferage. Likewise, I used white flowers because of the significance of the color white to the Women's Sufferage movement. I chose to use a majority of yellow roses and sunflowers to highlight the relationship to the colors used in the Black Lives Matter movement, which is punctuated by the fist icon.
After cutting and arranging the flowers, vote button, silhouettes, and fist icon by hand I scanned the image and added finishing elements digitally to create the final image. I envision this image being used in many different ways from posters and stickers to T-shirts and magnets.
