The Great Depression

In 1929 a stock market crash triggered the Great Depression, the worst economic downturn in U.S. history. On this expedition, you will view historical photographs to learn about some of the difficulties Americans faced during the Depression. Some lost their jobs, their homes, and their life savings. See and learn about brealines, Hoovervilles, the Dust Bowl, and the plight of the migrant farm workers. Then go inside the home of the Mattox family, an African American family in rural Georgia in the 1930s, to learn about their daily life during the Depression.
