This classic edition of the board game "Monopoly" was printed by John Waddington Ltd. of Leeds. Monopoly was first patented in 1935 by the American Charles Darrow and was published by Parker Bros. Ltd. in the USA. The American layout featured streets in Atlantic City. When John Waddington's were offered the game in 1935, the managing director Victor Watson went down to London from Leeds to scout for suitable street names for the British version. John Waddington had started off as a theatrical printer in 1896 and the firm began printing playing cards in 1921.
