Seated portrait of Mir Wajid Ali, a "darogha" or an official in the court of Wajid Ali Shah, the last King of Awadh or Oudh, who was noted for rescuing two British women in Lucknow in 1858. He wears an ornate garment and a round cap, and rests an arm on a table covered with a tablecloth with a foliage motif.
