Wales was the Host Nation of the Rugby World Cup in 1999. It was the biggest sporting event ever staged in Wales. The then Millennium Stadium was built in record time to stage the major matches in this tournament. Wales lost in the quarter finals of the tournament to the eventual winners, Australia.
