Shu Junsu is a painter in the late Ming dynasty, courtesy name Zhifu. He was born in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. He is a pupil of Wen Jia and Qian Gu, and he does even better than his teachers. In ancient China, when going on a sightseeing tour or going climbing, people always take a walking stick with them. So it gradually becomes a symbol of hermits.
At the left corner of Shu’s fan leaf painting, a child holding a musical instrument walks on the bridge, following the literatus, who is walking with a stick toward the cottage under the pine tree. This reminds us of a poetic scenery.
