Hasegawa studied under the great Japanese modern concrete sculptor Fumio Asakura. Adopting the principle of a moderate, clear-cut figurative style throughout his career, he created a large number of human and various animal-shaped sculptures. This work depicting the graceful posture of a female in a stately forward motion was awarded a specially selected Prize at the 10th Nitten Exhibition. The work conveys the artist’s pursuit of the ultimate female image while at once placing emphasis on realistic expression.
