The walls of the Grand Salon are decorated with a number of delicate arabesques of flowers, fruits, vines and birds. This is the largest mural in this room.
The hall is over 200m² and is over 8 in height and is one of the noblest rooms in Malta. The Salon was used for the knights’ business discussions as well as their refectory and banqueting hall. Under the British, it was used for public entertainments such as concerts and society balls. This room is nowadays used for temporary exhibitions, conferences and special events.
The hall is also presently undergoing conservation. This, along with the documentation and research on past documentation will not only ensure better preservation but will hopefully shed more light on the various interventions and uses of this hall throughout the ages.
