"Side tables take their name from the place they used to occupy in the halls and rooms of palaces and the homes of wealthy families. They were pieces of furniture used merely for decorative purposes or to display a valuable decorative item.
The rigidness and symmetry of this Baroque-style table, as well as the way it has been decorated with a picture of playing cards, known as the Spanish deck, are two features that demonstrate that the table was made in a Spanish workshop, possibly in the areas of Castile or Aragón."
