Projeto Portinari

Projeto Portinari
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Composition in black tones, blue, orange, yellow, earthy, violet, red, gray, purple, green and white. Smooth texture with marked brushstrokes. Representation of war held by various groups of people in an attitude of despair and some animals against entirely geometrized background. The groups are distributed asymmetrically in the composition, occupying the entire area of the support. In the lower on the left half, a group of women kneeling: one with open arms, others with arms raised, others with hands on head and two in front with children on his lap. In the lower on the right corner, animals side by side, in profile to the left, looking beasts. On the left half of the composition and a little further down on the right, representing the horsemen of the apocalypse, the two groups facing the center. The scene are repeated in other areas of support, delivering more the idea of the posture of the characters through masses of color, than its individual details. This little definition is also due to the insertion or overlapping groups of geometric figures of different colors and sizes, which make up the background.
