The 19th century may be considered the golden age of the pocket watch. Part of a gentleman’s jewellery, pocket watches have been considered a symbol of dignity and wealth. From the 19th century they hung from fobs and were kept in the pocket of the waistcoat, a garment that became fashionable with gentlemen in the 19th century. This watch, a savonette hunter model, it has a profusely decorated case, with etched motifs based on floral elements and the coat of arms, a typically masculine decoration. As well as being a utilitarian object, this watch has sentimental value, which can be seen with the inclusion of a locket hanging from the fob, without doubt a reminder of a loved one.
