The rope curtain pattern of white inlay resembled the koyomi (calendars) distributed from Mishima-taisha Shrine. This came to be called the works of this pattern ‘Mishima konomi-de’.
This water jar was made in the Okusano kiln, a renowned kiln producing excellent old Karatsu ware.
It has an imposing shape with its stocky foot and swelled shoulder while the mouth is intentionally distorted. This unbalanced figure might reflect the taste of Japanese tea masters.
