The handle of one of the Downton pumps. The pump was used for general purposes, for firefighting and for pumping water from the bilges. In an emergency, it could be operated by anyone since it is very easy to use. This pump had a higher flow rate, being specially used for pumping water coming from damages on the ship’s hull
