In an extraordinary career, Bunton played 119 games and kicked 207 goals for Fitzroy Football Club (1931-37, and 1942), winning three Brownlow Medals - two in his first two seasons of 1931-32, and 1935 (runner-up in 1934), and three Sandover Medals (1938-39 and 1941) when he played for Subiaco in Perth. After WWII, he played two games with Port Adelaide (1945), umpired for a period, and later coached North Adelaide (1947-48).
