Until the advent of public broadcasting the ether was relatively empty. In this situation, a wavemeter was a valuable asset for a radio amateur. For example, the tuning of a receiver could be determined by means of a high frequency buzzer signal produced by the wavemeter with a known frequency or the 'click' method. As absorption wavemeter it could measure the operating frequency of a transmitter with a built-in indicator light.
