The altarpiece illustrates the Christian history of salvation. The framing images narrate the history of humanity, depicting, clockwise: Adam and Eve in Paradise, the Fall, and the Life of Jesus up to his sacrifice and resurrection. In the central panel Christ appears as Judge of the World, weighing the salvation and damnation of humanity in the hereafter. The martyrs and saints in the rosary above him serve as intercessors on behalf of the faithful.
