This folio is from an album which includes pictures of the Ka'ba in Mecca, the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, and the Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Written on this particular folio is the whole of verse 17:1 of the Qur'an, which refers to the isra, or Night Journey, of Muhammad. Although he album was compiled and illuminated in the eighteenth century, the calligraphy on this page is signed by Ali, and thus may be the work of the renowned, sixteenth-century Persian calligrapher, Mir Ali.
