  • Artist info: Frans Floris started out as a sculptor, which was his father´s occupation, but turned to painting directly after his father´s death in 1538. As a painter Floris developed into one of the most influential artists in Flanders in the mid 16th century. It is rumoured that he had more than one hundred pupils during his lifetime, one of them Abraham Bloemaert who, in turn, taught Cornelis van Poelenburgh, Hendrik Terbruggen, Jan Baptist Weenix and many other well known masters.
