Allegorical caprice. The Avarice

Eugenio Lucas Velázquez1852

Museo Lázaro Galdiano

Museo Lázaro Galdiano
Madrid, Spain

Sinister, twisted, witch-like figures surround the table and fly around the black sky. On the ground there is a globe with books scattered all around as a symbol of wisdom`s contempt for her lust for money, which would seem to be the meaning of the allegory. This work gives eloquent testimony to the deeply personal way in which this artist interpreted the world of Goya.
