Sebastian is one of the most revered Early Christian martyrs. Emperor Diocletian ordered Sebastian bound to a tree and pierced with arrows as punishment for converting Roman citizens to Christianity. Left for dead, Sebastian was nursed back to health by a Christian widow, and again confronted Diocletian. This time the emperor ordered him beaten to death with clubs.
