This table is included in closing of an article published in the Philosophical Transactions by the then Secretary of the Royal Society, James Jurin. 'Invitatio ad observationes meteorologicas communi consilio instituendas' or 'Invitation by the Council to submit meteorological observations' called on all scholars to take systematic readings of the weather, format them according to the table suggested and send them to the Royal Society.
Many of the observations which were sent as a result of this call are still preserved in the archives of the Royal Society.
