Beijing, China

This piece displays a wedding scene between a young man named Xu Xian and a lady called Bai Suzhen who was actually transformed from a white snake spirit, both of whom are the protagonists in the household folklore and Peking Opera Legend of the White Snake.
The two characters, both clad in auspicious red garments, are holding a piece of red silk fabric which symbolizes their bond, while Bai Suzhen’s maid Xiaoqing is lifting the red bridal veil. All these good-looking and vivid characters constitute a real life scene.
