Alexandra Palace

Alexandra Palace
London, United Kingdom

The Alexandra Palace Theatre was built at the height of Victorian stage craft. Its wooden stage machinery for producing elaborate special effects remains in situ, a rare survivor that has not been updated since installation in 1875. The sub-stage contains weights and pulleys for moving scenery and sets through the stage cuts, as well as star traps and coffin traps for dramatic entrances or exits.
