The welcome crowd for the surf boat carrying the Olympic torch for the 2000 olympic games.

The Olympics were held in Sydney between September 15th and 1st of October. A lot of planning went underway as over 50,000 people would be visiting the beach for Volleyball. The Torch relay coming to North Bondi was the highlight of the year, just 24hrs before the Games Opening ceremony. The weather was magnificent and the surf was quite flat. Jim Walker, Olympian and Australian Champion lit his torch and ran his leg of the relay down the beach to where the Volleyball Stadium had been erected, to another Olympian and Australian Ski Champion, Phil Coles.
