These young men completed training in welding at the Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers Training Center in Rich Square, North Carolina. Mr. James A. Felton supported the mission of the center and taught classes there from 1976 until 1987.
This photograph is a part of the James A, Felton and Annie Vaughn Felton Papers in the Southern Historical Collection. James A. Felton was an author, teacher, counselor, and civic leader in Hertford County, N.C. In the 1960s, he was a founder of the People's Program on Poverty, an African American organization created to study and fight poverty on the grass-roots level in northeastern North Carolina.In 1947, Felton married Annie Vaughan. Their collection includes materials related to their personal, professional, religious, and civic lives.
