London, United Kingdom

Wellington Arch was built in 1825-7. Originally intended as an entrance to Buckingham Palace, it was sited in front of the Hyde Park Screen. A giant equine statue of the Duke of Wellington by Matthew Cotes Wyatt was built on top of it in 1846. However, this controversial monument was removed to Aldershot in 1883 and the arch moved to Constitution Hill.
