As indicated in the book Bao Pu Zi by Ge Hong of the Jin dynasty (266-420 AD) who reviewed all the previous theories and practices of pursuing immortality, “a corpse will not decay if all the nine orifices of the body are plugged with gold or jade objects”. Ancient Chinese people thus crafted nine different burial jade objects to plug the nine orifices of the human body. Jade Eyeshades are one of them.
