The scroll reads: "This painting shows the province of Sogdiana, in which there are many pyramids, columns, altars, left by Bacchus, Hercules, Ciro, Semiramide and Alexander the Great to recall their victories... Bactriana, rich in everything except for oil. The inhabitants are excellent fighters and their king was Zoroaster, philosopher and inventor of magic art... and since this painting shows many different provinces with many different names, we will call it from the name of the chief one."
