Here in the Naumburg Cathedral, the sculptor's most high-quality works have been preserved. That is why the unknown artist was given the name “Naumburg Master”.
His reliefs are technical masterpieces. Each scene is carved out of a single block of limestone. The Naumburg master has worked his way up to 35 centimetres deep into the stone, so that the figures appear extremely three-dimensional.
