Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

In the lower half, calm, blue sea, with ships and small boats full of men, chasing several whales, some jumping and others squirting water. In the lower center, the islet occupied in its entire length by a rectangular fortification with sloping walls and small houses. On the left, two dead whales, whose meat is being cut by some men who are on them. In the upper half, still on the left, houses and warehouses. In the background, green mountain ranges and clear skies in pink and blue tones. Oval frame, in plastered and gilded wood, surrounded by an embossed laurel log. On the back of the chassis, a stamp with the inscription: "FÁBRICA DE MOLDURAS / -DA- / GALERIA JORGE / 131, RUA DO ROSÁRIO".
The painting's authorship is attributed to Leandro Joaquim.
