What Is It

This is a mixed media collage on watercolor paper. The size is 11”x 14.” It depicts a mother and
child in the storm of uncertainty asking the existential question, “What is It?” This is something
that is going on in this country with people seeking asylum. I also wanted it to be a different take
on the concept of “Madonna and Child,” of which there have been many different versions
throughout history. This picture contains fear and hope…the fear is in their eyes, the hope is in
the color.
