Laxfield Museum has a glorious exhibit, featuring the entire contents of a local handyman’s shed. Inspired by the array of rusting nails, bits of leather and old tins, we invited residents to bring along some of the treasures stashed away at the back of their sheds.

Old keys, rusty horseshoes and Victorian glass bottles, dug up when planting spring bulbs, were just a few of the items brought along to the Connect – What’s in your Shed? event held at Laxfield church.

Residents were invited to mould these treasures in pre-prepared clay moulds. The next stage will be to cast the moulds in jesmonite, after which the resulting plaques will be displayed around the village.

This activity took place in the Suffolk village of Laxfield, as part of our 'What is your Village made of?', which was delivered during our 'Make Do & Friends' creative programme of work for older people (55+) in rural areas.

Make, Do & Friends delivered creative workshops and events in villages in Mid-Suffolk and Babergh, providing the opportunity to share and learn new skills whilst enjoying a cuppa with friends and neighbours. In times of social distancing, we adapted to deliver activities online, in the post and through outdoor interventions when restrictions allowed.
