When British aviation executives visited the Lynn and Everett, Mass jet engine plants of the General Electric Company during their American tour, E.C. Bowyer, the director of the Society of British Aircraft Constructors (SBAC), seated at right tried his hand at the throttle of a J-47 turbojet engine under test. Seated with him at the test cell control panel is Admiral D.C. Ramsey, USN, Ret., who as president of the Aircraft Association, is Mr. Bowyer's American counterpart. Watching the executives put the General Electric engines through its paces are C.W. LaPierre, left, general manager of the GE Aircraft Gas Turbine Department and Phillip Whitmore, who is in charge of engine testing at the Lynn River Works. The British group is making a nationwide tour of aviation installations in this country under the auspices of the Aircraft Industries Association, the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. Navy and the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.
