White-glazed Mortar with Horizontal Belly-ridge

Yangzhou Museum

Yangzhou Museum
Yangzhou, China

Unearthed in Wantou Brick & Tile Factory of Yangzhou city in 1965, this pot covered with white glaze both inside and outside features evenly-applied lustrous glaze and spotlessly white, smooth body, making it one of the best pieces of white porcelain made by Ding Kiln. It has an opening rim that expands outwards a little bit, sloped shoulders, bulging belly culminating with a horizontal edge, and a ring-shaped base that has been remodeled, showing traces of pin-holes created when it was baked with the support of three pins.
